You “had a dream,”
Born from need,
And purpose,
Have thou forsaken both?
A divine invitation,
To protect and guide us,
“Through the night with the light from above,”
Have thou lost thy faith?
Your standing in disrepute,
“Whose broad stripes and bright stars”
Now tarnished,
Have thou the will to repair?
The refuge,
And the demand,
“Give me your tired, your poor,”
Is thy “golden door” corrupted?
The American spirit is cracked,
Not broken,
“Give me liberty, or give me death!”
And give me a sign,
To “Let freedom ring”
Ring again,
“We the People,”
If not us, then whom?
