Yishay Ishi Ron
Yishay Ishi Ron is an award-winning Israeli author, former elite combat soldier, and psychology graduate whose fiction explores trauma, survival, identity, and the human capacity for redemption. Drawing on both personal experience and psychological insight, Ron writes about people pushed to the edges of themselves and the unexpected ways they find their way back. His internationally acclaimed novel Dog follows a former Israeli officer struggling with severe PTSD, addiction, and homelessness, and the bond with a stray dog that slowly draws him back toward life. The Hebrew edition was long-listed for the Sapir Prize, Israel’s most prestigious literary award. The English edition, translated by Yardenne Greenspan, won two National Jewish Book Awards in the United States and was recommended by the National Library of Israel as an important contemporary work on post-trauma. Dog is currently being developed as a feature film by acclaimed Israeli filmmaker Eran Riklis. Ron’s most recent novel, The Girl Who Rode the White Lion, was published in 2026. Inspired by true events, the novel moves between Nazi Germany, 1950s New York, and Tel Aviv, weaving a story of courage, memory, and the long shadow of the Holocaust. The book has received praise from leading authors and scholars and an endorsement from the President of Israel.
His previous works in Hebrew include Holiday Apocalypse, nominated for the Geffen Award, and Vincent’s Nose, a children’s book adapted into an award-winning stage play. Across his work, Ron returns to one enduring question: what remains of us after life has broken the person we thought we were, and how do we build a life from what remains?
